The consortium
Four universities, one programme
Each partner teaches what it knows best. You'll spend at least one semester at three of the four universities.

Leuven, Belgium
KU Leuven
KU Leuven is Belgium's largest university. Its electrical engineering department (ESAT) runs one of Europe's leading research groups on electrical energy systems and HVDC grids.
- Role in DCMAPS
- Power system foundations and HVDC grid modelling.
- You'll study here in
- Semester 1: Foundations
- Expertise
- HVDC grid modelling and planning
- Power system dynamics and stability
- Electricity markets

Barcelona, Spain
Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
UPC is Catalonia's technical university. Its research centres in Barcelona work on power converter control and the integration of renewable energy into power systems.
- Role in DCMAPS
- Converter control, grid-forming operation and modular multilevel converters.
- You'll study here in
- Semester 2: Converter technology
- Expertise
- Control of power converters
- Grid-forming and grid-following operation
- Modular multilevel converters

Kongens Lyngby, Denmark
Technical University of Denmark
DTU is one of Europe's top engineering universities, with a strong focus on wind energy. Its campus is just north of Copenhagen.
- Role in DCMAPS
- Offshore wind integration and multi-terminal DC grids.
- You'll study here in
- Semester 3: DC grids and offshore wind
- Expertise
- Offshore wind power plants
- Multi-terminal DC grids
- Stability of converter-dominated systems
Stockholm, Sweden
KTH Royal Institute of Technology
KTH is Sweden's largest technical university, in central Stockholm. Sweden built the world's first commercial HVDC link in 1954, and KTH has worked on DC technology ever since.
- Role in DCMAPS
- High-voltage components, DC protection and breakers.
- You'll study here in
- Semester 3: HV components and DC protection
- Expertise
- High-voltage insulation and cables
- DC circuit breakers and protection
- Power semiconductor devices
Associated partners
Transmission operators, manufacturers and research institutes will host theses and give guest lectures. We'll list them here as agreements are signed.
